Getting Started
If this is your first time playing Dungeons & Dragons and you are looking for help on what class or character to play this guide is here to help you.
First, if you have experience playing before and know how to make your own character feel free to do so, you are under no obligation to choose any of these. But if it is your first time playing, I do strongly recommend picking one of the pre-made characters.
The first thing you should do is know what you want to do in the party. Do you want to be on the frontline cutting down enemies? If so, consider a Barbarian, Ranger, Fighter, or a Paladin.
Do you want to cast spells and help everyone on your team, both inside and outside of combat? Consider a Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, or Wizard.
Or do you want to do a little of everything, helping the party cut down foes in combat, while disarming traps, uncovering secrets, and healing your friends, outside of combat? If so, consider the Cleric, Monk, Rogue, or Druid.
Also consider how you want to play the game, do you want to cast spells, swing a hammer, shoot a bow, or talk your way out of a sticky situation. If you know you want to play a knight is shining armor that has a sword and shield, you probably want to look at Paladin or Fighter, not a Wizard. Whereas if you want to be a good-hearted person, in touch with nature and the world around you, and maybe with a pet bear, you probably want to look at Druid or Ranger, and not a Rogue.
Each character has a small backstory associated with them; read through them to get a feel for the type of person that they are. Each adventurer is unique and offers something different to the party. The backstory can give you an idea of what the character is like and if you would like to play them or not. Each backstory is unique and offers some insight into how a character works and if they might be a good fit for you!
